That's a lovely tribute, Miike. He always came across as a great guy and a character.

Those upcoming Aussie tests will be strange.

Channel 9 probably had something to do with it, too. Their ratings have been messed about with enough as it is.

Re: Phil Hughes - RIP
There is a tri-series ODI competition in January between Aust, England & India as a World Cup warm up so I think that ruled out keeping Sydney as is and having Brisbane as the 4th Test.

Melbourne will have 90,000 in on Boxing Day so its usually money rather than state bias that drives Cricket Australia and their decisions.
As for bias I note that after Perth managed to win the right to host the first 3 Big Bash finals at the WACA via qualifying it has been decided it MUST be on the East Coast so has been handed to Canberra.

Re: Phil Hughes - RIP
The Sydney Test is delayed purely because of the short turn around between Brisbane and Melbourne.

I find Australia to be very Melbourne-centric, and it irritates me sometimes. They can't be flexible given the circumstances?

Sven Roeder 11:24 Mon Dec 1
Re: Phil Hughes - RIP
To be fair its the only one that has a traditional date so the rest are flexible. Particularly in the case of Perth which has been excluded completely this summer.
ICC requirements mean you must have 3 full days between Tests and the Sydney one has been delayed so that there aren't 4 back to back Tests.
Apt that the series starts and finishes at the home grounds of the two states that Phillip Hughes played for.

Every Test shifted except Melbourne.

It doesn't matter who dies, they HAVE to have their Boxing Day Test.

The four Test series against India has now been rescheduled.
Was due to be Brisbane (start Dec 4), Adelaide (12th), Melbourne (26th) & Sydney (Jan 3).
Is now Adelaide (start Dec 9) , Brisbane (17th) , Melbourne (26th) & Sydney (Jan 6).

I'm the last one to go in for grief tourism - clapping X number of minutes into a match etc - but I was moved by the Cricket Australia tribute they showed on Sky Sports news last night. Particularly the bit about how much he loved going back to the family farm when he had free time.

Nice touch by Cricket Australia. The official scorecard for the abandoned NSW v SA game has been amended so that instead of Phillip Hughes showing as retired hurt it will forever show him as 63 not out.
Lots of pictures on Michael Clarke's twitter account sharing memories of Hughes to mark his birthday.
Clarke has also said to Sean Abbott that whenever he is ready to practice he will be the first to take him to the nets and hit a few balls back to him.

An umpire at a cricket match in the Israeli city of Ashdod has died after being hit by a ball, reports say.

Witnesses say a fast delivery by the bowler came off the batsman's bat, striking the wicket and then the man.

The incident comes just two days after Australian batsman Phillip Hughes died of a head injury caused by being struck by a ball at a match in Sydney.

Umpires in cricket, unlike some players, do not wear helmets but such incidents are extremely rare.

An umpire at a match in Wales died five years ago after a ball thrown by a fielder hit him on the head.
Shock and sorrow

AFP news agency, quoting the Israeli Cricket Association, named the umpire as Hillel Oscar, 55, and described him as the former captain of the national cricket team.

There were conflicting reports about how he died, with some saying that he was hit in the face, others that he suffered a heart attack after being hit in the chest.

He was taken to a city hospital, but medics were unable to revive him.

Saturday's match was the last in Israel's league season.

Correspondents say cricket is not a popular sport in Israel, though there is an amateur league with players from countries such as India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

However, the incident took place amid sorrow and shock in the cricketing world.

On Thursday Australian Test cricketer Hughes died of his injuries two days after being struck on the neck by a bouncer.

His funeral is due to be held on Wednesday.

If one of my mates had died playing cricket I'd probably lose all my love for the game and never want to pick up a bat or ball again.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's how a few of them are feeling.

Hearing Michael Clarke & given the funeral is on the 3rd you couldn't see how they could play so soon.
